What To Expect

What To Expect

What should I expect throughout the treatment process?

How do I prepare myself for the treatment?

Here are some things that you can do to prepare for THERAKOS™ Photopheresis therapy

For 2 days before your appointment

  • Drink plenty of fluids — Having more fluids in your body helps the blood to flow better during the treatment
  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol — These can cause your body to have less fluid

On the evening before your treatment

  • Eat a low-fat meal
    • Avoid high-fat foods, such as meat, fried food, cheese, eggs, butter, and dessert
    • High concentrations of fat in the blood can interfere with the cell-separation process and could result in the procedure being stopped before treatment

On the day of the treatment

  • Eat a low-fat breakfast and lunch
  • Do not skip any meals
  • Drink as little fluid and possible and visit the restroom immediately before the procedure, so you remain comfortable during the treatment
  • Tell your doctor about any medications you are taking
  • Be sure to follow your healthcare providers instructions as you prepare for treatment
